The AFM Welfare Council is proud of it's
history & the success that's evident after 70 years!
It all started when the first two orphans
were left at the front door of Pastor Gerrie Wessels in Brixton. He took the
initiative and the church started a Children's Home. And the rest, as they say,
is history:
- Registered children's home in 1938
- Registered National Welfare Organisation in 1945
- Involved in children, aged and families
- Opened first Old Age Home in 1965, thereafter in 1968,
1975, 1977, 1987, 1979 & 1996
- Changed children's home into cottage system and
established Children's Village in 1975
- Established first retirement village in 1990 and
thereafter in 1995 & 2002
- Registered Susan La Poorta Children's Home in Sarepta
in 1997
- Register ABBA Adoptions as the legal Adoption Unit of
AFM Executive Welfare Council in 1996
- All children in centralized children's village are
moved into decentralized community-based homes, 1999 to 2006
