uMephi is successful because:
  • It's strongly preventative as a result of early intervention
  • Social workers appointed at every project secure that everything is done to reunite children with families
  • Children's permanent placement is considered as soon as possible, & children are placed with "forever" families in the shortest possible time
  • The involvement of communities and assemblies ensures a great deal of sustainability
  • Donors & sponsors can see and experience the success of projects that they support
 
The uMephi structure is based on the following types of homes: 
 
SATTELITE CHILDREN'S HOMES
(Decentralized children's home)
Homes where Maltreated & Sexually abused children are cared for until they can be re-united with their parents
 
HALFWAY HOMES
(In statutory terms: a Place of Safety)
Homes where abandoned and orphaned babsies, as well as babies from mothers who are expereiceing a crisis pregnancy/unplanned pregnancy are admitted
 
SPECIAL NEEDS HOMES
(In statutory terms: community foster homes for babies with special needs)
Homes that is specially equipped to address the need for babies with special needs such as babies with physical and mental disabilities
 
COMMUNITY FOSTER HOMES
Homes that care for HIV+ toddlers and homes that care for orphans
